Acne Product Review: Can Acne Blemish Control Wipes Prevent Acne?

You must have probably heard or read an acne product review on the so called pimple pads, medicated acne blemish control wipes that are supposed to clean your face in order to prevent acne. These acne blemish control wipes were first introduced into the acne remedy circle during the late 1980’s. Today, these acne blemish control wipes are still widely used not only by people seeking for an effective acne remedy but also by those who simply want a effective tool in preventing acne problems.

Do Acne Blemish Control Wipes Work?

They don’t. If you are someone looking for an effective acne remedy or one trying your best in preventing acne, then acne blemish control pads are a waste of money. They do not clean your face any better than the cheaper method of just washing your face with a gentle soap and lukewarm water.

Acne product reviews or commercials on acne blemish control wipes will often feature pictures that show how much dirt is removed after one has supposedly used a pimple pad. Do not be fooled by these marketing tricks. Try using an acne blemish control wipe and see for yourself that it will hardly remove any more dirt from your face than when you just wipe your face with a clean, moist towel.

Oil Control Is a Good Acne Remedy

Preventing acne by using an acne blemish control wipe is highly unnecessary, if not downright useless. Instead of becoming what advertisements promise it to be an effective acne remedy, pimple pads only strip the skin of sebum, a natural oil produced by the sebaceous glands. Sebum keeps the skin from drying out and cracking open.

The body instinctively knows that it must make sebum to keep the skin supple and healthy. When you strip all the sebum away from your face using an acne blemish control wipe, your skin becomes extremely dry. In order to compensate for what has been lost, your sebaceous glands go into an unrestrained mode, producing more sebum and rather more quickly.

This means that instead of preventing acne, using acne blemish control wipes will make your skin more prone to acne formation by causing overproduction of sebum. An effective acne remedy will try to control hyperactive sebaceous glands since an overly oily skin will just attract more dirt that will block the pores.

So if you really want to find a good acne remedy, especially if you have an oily skin type, go for products that control, not promote, the production of sebum. Better than using acne blemish control wipes is observing a good regular skin hygiene, such as washing the face at least twice a day, or more if you get very dirty or sweaty. In fact, preventing acne can be just as simple as making the right decisions with the food you eat, the habits you practice, and the lifestyle you choose.
